For those that have made the jump to a renewable and sustainable energy source, net metering is a term that they are likely familiar with. Net metering is a way for those with alternative energy sources to monitor the amount of energy used; net metering provides a neat advantage over those that have kwh meters. Any excess energy produced will cause the meter to spin backward. This essentially means rebates or banking energy until it is needed.

For those that have an alternative energy source, net metering is very important. For those energy sources that are climate dependant, the supply of energy will fluctuate. Net metering can create a win win situation between the consumer and the utility companies. Utility companies quite frequently have to create surplus energy to give to homes. This always leads to wastage. Net metering allows the utility company to purchase surplus energy back from the consumer. This saves both side’s money and time.
