Solar Buying And Installation

Solar buying and installation can be a very daunting task. What is really needed; which system is the best to go with? Are panels or cells better? Is solar heating and solar lighting possible? What are the advantages to a roof mounted pole? The list goes on and on making it so daunting and confusing to work out, and just to add to the confusion is the next problem: who to go with? Is cheap the way forward or should higher quotes be considered.

To start with try thinking of home renovating. Solar buying and installation is not much different from this. Solar technology may seem like something futuristic but in fact it has been around since the early 1950’s and there are probably quite a number of people in the surrounding area that have been installing these systems for years.

Secondly before jumping headlong into solar buying and installation, stop for a moment and learn a bit about the economics of solar energy. Learn about its components that are commonly found in a solar system. It is also important to know how much energy the household is using as this will help to find effective ways of reducing the cost of the system. This information can be found on utility bills. With this information in hand it is possible to proceed onwards in the solar buying and installation quagmire.

Once one knows their energy usage they should consider whether it will be cheaper to use alternative forms of energy to power certain items in the house. This is known as load –shifting. Examples of this are using propane or natural gas to power the clothes dryer or stove plus one could also use natural gas to heat the water. Alternatively buying a solar thermal system to heat the water for washing and to heat the water for radiators is another way to save money in the solar buying and installation process.

Once one understands the energy side of things and knows exactly what they want, the next step in solar buying and installation is choosing the installer. Shop around but don’t be fooled by the cheapest quotes. They often seem great initially but upon reading further one tends to discover hidden costs. Be sure to ask some of the following questions: What renewable energy training or certification do they have? How long have they been in business and how much experience do they have? How much do they know about zoning and electrical requirements and codes? What do they know about local, state (or provincial) and national incentives? Are they willing to provide a list of references? What service do they offer after installation? Do they offer updates of manuals and catalogues? Do they have membership in trade organizations (e.g. solar energy associations)? Do they offer adequate warranties? Finally, do they have payment options?

Solar buying and installation may seem daunting, however learn how to make the home efficient and shop around. The leg work will be worth it in the long run.
