Solar For Agriculture

Those of us who watch the news are informed on a daily basis the condition the planet is in. If things do not change then some serious consequences could arise. Alternative energy sources have been proven effective in cutting greenhouse gasses as well as costs to the owner. One of the best forms of alternative energy is that of solar power and one of the industries that it helps the most is agriculture.

Solar in agriculture can fit like a hand in glove. There are so many ways that farms can be aided by solar power. Solar greenhouse heating is a great example of solar in agriculture at work. By using solar greenhouses, gas and oil usage can be cut. This reduces the impact on the environment and the cost to the farmers. Insulating the solar greenhouse will keep the temperature constant even on cold, rainy days. This will negate the use for any other fuels being used,

Crop drying is another great example of solar in agriculture. The old fashioned way is to lay the crops in direct sunlight. However, this doesn’t always dry them evenly and leaves them vulnerable to bugs and other predators. Solar dryers however can do the job evenly and in half the time. It also keeps them protected from outside dangers and thieves of nature.

Finally, one of the best ways to use solar in agriculture is to renovate old barns and farm buildings to make use of natural light. This is best during the summer months where the days are longest. Doing this cuts down on fuel bills and can contribute to animal health.

Those that work in agriculture surely do not want to harm the planet. By using solar in agriculture and getting that sun to work, money and the planet can be saved. The crops, animals and workers will all benefit.
