Solar Power Uses

Today with all of the talk about global warming, those that are taking the warnings seriously are looking into natural energy forms. One of the more popular of these is solar power. The technology for solar power has existed for nearly 60 years and is more widely used than people realize. Many businesses are switching in part to solar while many home owners are starting to make the change. The more that makes the switch the better all around for the planet.

There are some very common solar power uses. Some are quite small scale while others are quite large projects. The truth is, if one has ever used a calculator then they have likely used solar power. Many of these are powered off of small independent solar photovoltaic units. Garden lights and RV appliances are some of the other gadgets that can be powered from these.

Those with swimming pools or hot tubs may be aware of solar pool heating systems. These run water through a solar collector. The result is a very cheap, efficient and environmentally friendly way to heat pool and hot tubs.

Many are switching to solar thermal energy to heat the water in their homes. Many are surprised that in climate as far north as Alberta Canada, there is still sufficient sunlight available to heat water effectively. It is also very efficient paying for itself in about 3 years.

Finally, there are the large Photovoltaic systems. These allow homes to go completely off the local grid system. There does need to be sufficient sunlight in the area but surprisingly, several areas have been able to make this work. It is increasingly popular with financial incentives to get people on board.

Solar power could prove very beneficial in the coming years. As the pressure mounts to use other less harmful types of fuel, the solar power uses will become more and more known.
